Hi guys I've just got back into PC gaming after 12 years of no PC.
4760k CPU with cool master hyper t4 cooler
Asus z87 pro
8gb 1600ddr3 vengeance ram

About to start with the over clocking but have been reading conflicting Info. I don't want to oc the ram yet just the CPU.

Am I ok to just increase the fsb in this set up? Was thinking of trying 4ghz and testing with prime 95 . what is the Max temp I should let my CPU get to during stress test?

I don't want to damage my CPU in anyway.

Also does oc'ing reduce the life of my CPU?

Thanks in advance!

you wont see any performance increase at all in OC'ing your ram(unless you are rendering).
You overclock the frequency, but in return you get a higher CAS latency. Games will run better with lower CAS latency than higher frequency.

Sorry I meant multiplyer not fsb lol! Yeah I don't want to touch the ram.

When I'm stress testing what is the Max temp I should let my CPU get to ? I don't want to be risky I just want to play my games safely knowing my CPU is ok lol

prime is perfect. The longer the system can run without having any issues the stabler it is.
For testing I recommend 30 minutes, and when you find the one you like then test is for atleast 2 hours.

Also others seem to be using ai suite for asus. I have an asus z87 pro so should I uses this as a start point? From what iv read it just ocs and reboots.

Also when stress testing if my CPU temp goes over 80 do i stop test or turn off PC?

And what is advised for temp check? Currently I am using an app called speccy that displays CPU temp

I don't know that. Maybe this will work but i'm not sure. Can you save a profile in the bios of your mobo? So yeah then save it now and if you wanted to undo it then just use that profile. But I'm not so sure about it.
