I5-8600k or Ryzen 2700x with a 1070ti ? Is the 2700x a better option in terms of a more future proof system.

The 8600K and the 8700K are right now the hands down fastest gaming CPU's at an affordable'ish price with the 9700K and 9900K being the outright fastest at any money (way too much money!!!).

Yes the 2700, 2700X Ryzen's are absolutely great CPU's and bring a lot to the table, and if productivity is a factor then especially at a price point they are hard to beat but if you want the fastest gaming CPU's, then Intel with there 8600K, 8700K, 9700K and 9900K just cannot be beaten, in fact even the 8400 holds its own against the 2700 and mixes it with the 2700X.

Even the latest games to come like Fallout 76 which has just released the recommended specs to play the game only requires a i7-4790 and a Ryzen 5 1500X...Minimum specs are even...
It just depends what your primary focus is...If it is pure gaming including high refresh rate gaming, then the 8600K will do a great job and it overclocks extremely well to 5GHz. If on the other hand, you game, stream and do productivity focused tasks like encoding, editting etc, then the 2700x comes into it's own.

I would also consider the 2700x if you are gaming at 4K as then the bottleneck becomes the GPU...Both a very good CPU's though the 2700X is a great all rounder and the 8600K is a pure gaming mean machine...

Both are fairly future proof for there respective tasks..

The Ryzen 7 is a better choice, especially when games are starting to use more cores.
For now the higher clocks of the i5 8600k still gives him the edge in gaming, but in productivity tasks the AMD chip wins by a long shot.
Overall with the 2700x you're getting better value.

Now if we are talking best bang for your buck, then absolutely the Ryzens are by far the better buy...
