i5_6400 will not boot on B250M Asus or MSI MB's

Thought I would future proof (somewhat) my system by moving to a better MB already capable of running i6/i7 generation. I attempted new boards from Asus and MSI and neither would boot with my i6.Returned them both and went back to my MSI H110 Gaming and it works perfectly. I am under the impression B250 should take 6th generation. Am I missing something? Thanks for any help you might offer.

I'm no expert with CPU's, but I'm a little bit better with motherboards. Are both of the B250's BRAND NEW? The only two things I've experienced were bent pins on used MOBO's and a dust spec preventing one of the pins from hitting it's respectable contact. If the boards are brand new I'm not sure.

May I ask what you even need a B250 board for? Besides overclocking, and extra DIMM slots, PCIe rails and lanes, and SATA ports, I can't think of anything.

As I mentioned, I just wanted to update to a little better quality board with an eye to moving from an i5-6400 to an i7 in the near future. I figured the B250 would be perfect since it runs 6th/7th generation CPU's. I could run the i7 on my current MSI H110M board, but thought it might be nice to upgrade a little. My current motherboard is certainly fine, I was just really shocked both B250 motherboards wouldn't boot.
