Hi, I've been trying to find the best available motherboard for a non k i7 2600. I managed to salvage one from my old job but the MOBO it came with is shot.

When I use PCPartPicker it tells me nothing above a Z77 is compatible but I could pick up a cheap H81m for like 60 bucks.

Can anyone confirm that a H81 would work or am I left scouring craigslist and Kjiji for a Z77?

Thanks!

Chris

The i7 2600 is an older 2nd gen cpu and is not compatible with a H81 motherboard. Intel typically changes motherboard chipsets every 2 generations. Your i7 needs a LGA1155 motherboard like a H61, B75, H77, or Z77

H81 motherboards use the LGA 1150 socket while your processor needs a LGA 1155, so it definitely won't work. You'll need to find some motherboard with a LGA 1155 socket, it doesn't have to be Z77. Since you won't be overclocking, getting something like an H77 would be fine.

Is the Z77 the best board available though?
