I7 2600k with 1600MHz RAM (1.5V)

Will the RAM work fine with the components? Intel's website says that the i7/i5 only work with 1333MHz RAM.

Intel only "officially" supports DDR3-1333 on the Sandybridge 2xxx series desktop processors however I can tell you from experience that they will run memory much faster than that without breaking a sweat. I've built two computers running 4x4GiB DDR3-1600 and not had a single issue. I'm currently running 8x4GiB at DDR3-2133 straight off the XMP profiles with no other adjustments.

This is in sharp contrast to the older DDR2 memory controllers which would flake out horribly and posed huge problems for high-speed DDR2 RAM, I couldn't even get 4 DIMMs running at DDR2-1066 on my old P45 and had to revert to DDR2-800. The integrated memory controller and well configured voltage scaling are mostly to thank for this, so give Intel a round of...

1333MHz is a default value; this kit will definitely work fine with your rig, no worry!

Yes, most likely the board will auto default to the 1333 speed but you can go in the board and change that to the 1600. The biggest issue of with the memory on any of the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors that I have heard about is running memory at 1.65+ voltage.

I am running pretty much the same system as you.
i7 2700k, 16GB 1600mhz vengeance, Asus P8Z68 vlx.
It runs fine. The 1333 is the default speed, it will run at 1600mhz if you change the settings.

It also helps to have a good motherboard (That Asus P8Z68 is terrific) as the BIOS/UEFI plays a role in it as well.

Yes. I have the exact same mobo and RAM, only a 2500K. It will actually run at 1600MHz but its still best to go into the BIOS and tell it to run at XMP so it will get the proper timings, voltage and everything.

But it will run fine. I am running 16GB of Vengance 1600MHz and right now am pushing 4.5GHz on my 2500K with 1.30v. Also I get about 22GB/s bandwidth, well close to that.



That is it. The speed is not soo much the issue as is the voltage. I have heard that the warranty will be void if you run 1.65v. But most good brand DDR3 1600MHz (like the Corsair) is XMP 1.5v so it is fine.

It will work on your computer, Look for the motherboard's RAM supports in ASUS website.
I am using i5 2500K CPU and I am using G-skill 16 GB ripjaws x series 1600 MHZ.

Hello, i'm a new user. I've been trying to set my ram to 1600, i have an maximus 4 extreme motherboard and my ram is Corsair vengeance CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9B (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145346)

I've tried and tried a lot of times, but i was tired and let it go. Now i have time and i wanted to try get them at 1600, please help me.

What really is the issue with the RAM you mention? Can't run it in 1600 MHz?
Run CPU-Z Click memory look for the DRAM Frequency it says: 798.8 MHz usually it fluctuates that's okay. Memory modules used in LGA 1155 sockets board are dual memory
so if you round off 798.8 GHz it would be 800 MHz multiply it 2(bcoz its dual memory) that would be equal to 1600 MHz
DDR3- Double Data Rate 3. I hope I explained it well to you.
In addition you can do this on the BIOS
In your motherboard's BIOS look for the memory settings, enable "XMP" profile.

Ok, i have them at 800 in CPU-Z memory tab, but in SPD tab says max bandwith 667, and bios spd 1333 @ 1333, does this have anything to do with it, or they are really running at 1600?

Did you go to BIOS and enable "XMP profile"?, Bcoz if your RAM is really rated at 1600 MHz it automatically adjust to its default setting(SPD) 1600 MHz 1.5 V VRAM
