hi all,

iam currently cracking my brain to know which i7 is better and to make it even worse i ordered i7 2760qm because i found it first on ebay but after i received it i found out that there is the i7 2860qm on Aliexpress for 5$ more.
now iam regretting that i didn't search more before buying the 2760qm from ebay.

is it worth it returning the cpu i bought from ebay so i buy the 2860qm from aliexpress?

my setup is :

MSI ge620dx

ram : 16gb 1333MHZ
1tb sshd
1tb hdd
custom made copper heatsink for high heat dissipation

any opinions will be more than appreciated.

thank you all

yes i know.. but what about the 2MB cache more in the i7 2860QM? wouldn't that make it more better? i will be using the laptop for development and productivity (from app development to autocad 3d and other intensive stuff)

The cpu (i7 2860qm) is not $5 !! it"s $5 more than the i7 2760qm... i also want to ask, what programs exceed 6MB cache?and is 3.00GHZ - 6MB cache powerful for everything ? i am not a gamer but a creator. (please try to explain to me in details, so maybe i just stop thinking about it )

thank you so much.

Yes, Its $5 more then the one you have. Sorry for the confusion, I could have been more clear.

As for is it powerful enough? It is when thats all the budget you have for a system. It should perform decently being a quad core with Hyperthreading.
The cache will have little impact in the creation process but should make a difference when you encode your final product. This would be the 'about 2%' already mentioned.

so the difference is 2% ? thats all ? i mean i searched alot on the internet and most of the guys said its quite more better, since the more the cache the better the CPU, but also some of them said programs wont exceed 6MB, then why manufacture 8MB CPU if thats true?

please excuse my OCD i freak out with computers as i want the best of the best.

many thanks

Hyperthreading needs more cache to act as a kind of swap file.

More cahce can be better but you are only increasing by 2mb so the net gain is small. Alot also depends on your application, data size & structure.
For example zipping up a file gets a really nice boost with that extra cache, way more then 2%. Something like 15% iirc.

so in short if you where in my boots, would you return the CPU to get the 2860qm? or the i7 2760qm is enough power for serious development.... and its not worth the 2MB cache more?
