[SOLVED] i7 3770+1060 6GB vs R5 1600+1060 6GB

Solution
hard to tell.

i7 has less cores (4), but is clocked higher, lower passmark rating (9284)

r5 more cores (6), but lower clock speeds, higher passmark rating (12268)

If you are looking at systems that are priced the same then get the r5.

If you are looking at the 3770 because it is cheaper then make a decision. It is definitely not a crap cpu. You will most like be good for a few more years.

Things to consider, the ivy bridge i7-3770 is the second highest processor you can get and will not want to spend the money on the 3770k for any reason as they are real close to one another in performance (unless you can overclock the 3770k). The i7-3770 can only pair with DDR3 RAM. DDR3 is not bad, but it is not DDR4 and that will take FPS...

The R5 1600 has a socket that can accept many more generations of AMD CPU's. I think they gauranteed 5 years of new CPU support for the AM4 socket. This is year 3, so if they hold up that promise, and you don't fry your motherboard then you will be able to ugrade to a newer CPU until 2021. Well, you could upgrade it in 2025, but it would have to be a processor from 2016-2021.

The R5 also supports DDR4 RAM and you will be able to achieve more FPS with DDR4.
