Hello, I am running with an i3-3320, with a gtx 960, and my i3 now really needs an upgrade, I was thinking of getting a i5-3570 but someone recommended getting the i7-3770, the i7 sounds like a good idea and I was wondering which would be best, I am also prepared to pay for the i7, as it isnt much more, also, I have a 500w psu and I was wondering whether I would need an upgraded psu for the i7.

thanks.

If your planning to game but not video editing or rendering ( Any CPU Intensive Stuff that requires all cores) go with the i7 you'll find the hyper threading in handy. If your just gonna game then go with the i5 it's just as good as the i7 in gaming. It depends on your use. As of your Power Supply no upgrades needed unless you wanna future proof.

I am only doing gaming, sometimes rendering, but to me, the i7 just overall seems better for my pc, also, I cant seem to find what socket it uses? I have the socket 1155

Well, there's no harm in getting the i7 if money isn't an issue for you, it'll only improve performance. Yes, it uses the 1155 socket (http://ark.intel.com/products/65719/Intel-Core-i7-3770-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz).

Which psu do you have exactly?

This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Elite-Power-Supply/dp/B004XG6I1W

It IS an i7 without integrated graphics, and would perform almost identically(clock speed is a tad lower). I did not recommend it because I don't know what motherboard you have. Not every LGA1155 motherboard supports it although 90% of them do.

Im in the UK and it is not on amazon.co.uk

also, it seems to be a good choice as it would use less power

The 1230v2 oem/tray is available. You can use your i3 cooler with it.
The 1245v2 is also cheaper than the 3770.

Hmm, that seems a lot cheaper, but the only issue is that since i got my gtx 960 during gaming my cpu fan has gotten louder, is that just because it is trying to catch up with the 960? So, it would be ok to use with it?

I also have to pre order it: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-xeon-e3-1230-v2-lga-1155-ivy-bridge-quad-core-33ghz-8mb-cache-33x-ratio-69w-cpu-oem

I would personally just go with an i5-3570! The i7-3770 is good for hyperthreading though.
