It's actually NOT a problem.

You can easily bring down those temperatures if you wish with a better cooler though, as well as improving the case fans if they aren't adequate (such as adding a front fan if none exists).

I can't find any documentation but I believe the general consensus is that the CPU danger zone is around 95degC or so (at which point it will actually just crash your PC rather than damage itself). CPU's do wear out quicker but even 75degc is no big deal.

Factors which affect CPU temperature:
1. CPU cooler
2. case fans
3. ambient room temperature

Most modern motherboards need a PWM fan on the CPU cooler to support fan control. You want fan control to avoid unnecessary noise. You may have to enable it in the...
No way man. That's too warm - even for IVB. I have a i7 3770k which is idling right now at 30/29/29/29 (C) according to Core Temp. I have 6 brower tabs open and iTunes.

Under load/gaming I hit low-mid 50's, but I've never hit 60C, even with some mild overclocking. I am using a closed-loop Asetek liquid cooler, and have decent air flow w/two case fans, but nothing fancy. Was just playing Crysis 3 and it was in the high 40's hitting 50-51C every once and a while. But if you're hitting 70-75C- that ain't good.

What kind of case do you have, and what kind of CPU cooler? Even with the crappy stock cooler I say that's too high.

And use CoreTemp to monitor the temps if you aren't already.

There are several good coolers if you require one.

BTW, you have a socket 1155.

For $30, this is a good cooler. I bought one for my sister and the fan had a slight tick so I replaced it with a compatible PWM fan with variable fan speed.
