i took the 3rd generation i7 3770, for this motherboard - dh61ww, i updated the bios from 0041 to 0120, even tried 0116, 0113, which is from 2.6 to 2.7 version, but the board gives 3 beeps and doesn't start up.. the earlier processor was i3 2120, the ram is DDR3 12gb, one stick is 8 gbs and other 4gb..
i read that the i7 3770 is compatible with this processor so i purchased it, now i'm not sure what exactly went wrong, i even tried to remove and place the cmos battery back.. and the socket of this motherboard is LGA 1155 which should be compatible with this 3rd gen i7.

According to intel site, 3 beeps is memory problem. Because you mixed the RAM, one 4GB and one 8GB. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards/000005765.html By the way if the MB has the right BIOS, it can support the i7 3770 http://processormatch.intel.com/Processors/CompatibleProcessors?componentName=dh61ww

So you are better to use the 8GB ( or the 4GB ) to boot into the BIOS, set up the intel XMP profile if the MB can support it. I don't check the manual, so I don't know it can or can't. After that save and exit, shutdown the PC. Add other RAM, reboot the PC to see you can boot the PC or not.
