Hi guys,
Just swaped my i5 3570k for a 3770k ($222 frys).

Some quick observation.. I do notice that the computer loads about 0.5-1 second slower on the 3770k based on the windows loading animation.

Anyways, currently I am using a MSI G45 board with OC genie @ 4.2 Ghz (same speed it OC'd for the 3570k).

I was wondering what is a safe zone that negotiates longevity and speed? At peaks, my CPU usage is about 80-99%.

Thank you

Hi, you are in you safe zone now OC'd at 4.0- 4.5Ghz. Anything higher is gonna require some voltage tweaking and more cooling potential that the Corsair H80i. I'm assuming that with OC Genie it's not OC'd 24/7 just when it needs it. I have a i7 3770K and I've got it OC'd to 4.3Ghz using something similar and it only loads up when I'm gaming or doing something CPU intensive.

I said I assumed it down clocked when it didn't need the horse power. I don't use OC Genie, I use Asus software that came with my Asus motherboard. It down clocks your CPU when using it under normal conditions.

Hello, I'm still new to overclocking but this what I have done/read about.

I have the MSI Z87-G45 board, and when I tried the OC genie setting (clicking the button in the BIOS screen) it just overclocks my i5 4670k to 4.0GHz. It does however change the cpu ratio mode to fixed, which as far as I know means it will constantly run the cores at 4.0. I have since disabled it and am sitting at 4.2GHz and have my cpu mode as 'dynamic' which as far as I know means it will run at 4.2GHz when it needs it and then downclock when it idles.

I would say with OC genie enabled check your BIOS and see what your cpu mode is if its fixed or dynamic.
