I want to upgrade to the 3930k to be future proof. but will it run good? also the 3930k does support only DDR3 is it worth it? or do i really need DDR4?

3930K is hardly current gen.
I would not consider it future proof.
DDR3 and DDR4 are comparable in price and performance.

If your use is for gaming, a quad with a fast core is optimal.
For that a I5-6600K with an overclock is as good as it gets today.

If you have a need today, buy what you need today.
And, perhaps for the next year or two.
There is no such thing as "future proof"

You can get an i5 4690k and a brand new z97 motherboard for the price of a 3930k.
