APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: 1-to-2 weeks
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Architectural and Product Viz - 3D Modeling using 3ds Max and Rendering using Maxwell Render and/or VRay. Not really a "gamer" but I could see myself picking up a couple games ie COD4.
PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse or monitor - although I will eventually upgrade my 17" monitor to a 23/24"

PARTS PREFERENCES: Core i7 920 - seems like the right balance between price/performance and seems to perform very well with Maxwell Render (Benchwell.com is a benchmarking site for Maxwell Render).
OVERCLOCKING: I am a noob when it comes to building systems and I have never tried to overclock one before, but I would definitely strongly consider doing it, especially since the i7 supposedly is well suited to it.
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe - I don't think my video card demands are as great as they are for playing some games out there, but some of my scenes can get pretty heavy with geometry and the card needs to be able to re-draw the scene quickly when I pan/zoom/rotate
MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1280 x 1024 currently, not sure what the new monitor would be
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: This system will basically be a rendering workhorse - not sure exactly how much work I'll be getting so I don't want to drop a ton of money yet, but would like a path for upgrading at a later date. I have never built my own system before but I do have half a brain and there are so many resources online that I think it is well within my abilities to pull it off.
So far what I have come up with from my research is the following build. I wouldn't mind shaving a couple of dollars off this if possible so any suggestions would be appreciated. Also - do I need a seperate CPU cooler?
