I'm gonna buy a laptop with AMD 8850m but I'm worrying if it will bottleneck the CPU or not as it is a dual core.

Other specs are : 8gigs RAM , 1 TB HDD, Windows 8.

Some help will be appreciated.

PS : I am not an extreme gamer. I have no issues if laptop can play fine on med settings/resolution.

To be honest, I'd say the CPU is not great, but it's ok for games that don't need more than one-two cores. The nominal clock speed is 1.8GHz (nearly half of the high end desktop parts), but turbo goes up to 3.0GHz. It's also dual-core (not quad core like all of desktop i7). My personal ranking of mobile gaming CPUs would be:

Top tier: quad-core mobile i7 CPUs with 47watt TDP (for example i7-4700MQ or equivalent Ivy Bridge part).

Mid-tier: dual-core CPUs with 37watt TDP (i7-4600M, i5-4300M, i5-4200M, etc)

Lower-tier: dual-core CPUs with 15watt TDP (i7-4500U, i5-4200U, etc) and all Core i3 parts.

Basically, the CPU in low tier are clocked slower to save battery and to require less hardware for cooling, but they're slower. i7-4500U is one of the faster CPUs in 15watt TDP tier, so maybe it will overlap with some lower-end CPUs from the 35watt tier.

dude i have a ulv paired with a 8730m , the thing is ulv's are not as bad as people make it out to be
the 4500u is a dual core with ht , so it has 2 logical cores per physical , so it will act like a quad core , even though it may not be the best i7 , paired with 8850m , its balanced , and even if you do get a lappy with a better cpu ,the gpu is weak ,and you wont see a huge impact on performance
in a lappy , ulv cpu's are actually better , they give the same performance on battery and A/C , they also use less power , so go with that lappy :)
