Hi all,

I recently bought a new GPU (1070 8GB) and I'm not getting quite the performance I was hoping for. Some titles like Witcher 3 or Outer Space struggle to keep constant 60fps @1080p

I know that open world titles use a lot of CPU, but thought that at 1080p the bottleneck wouldn't cause under 60fps. Has anyone got a similar setup and can advise what fps they see in games? Alternatively, is my CPU just so much older it could need replacing regardless?
The system runs with 16GB of 2133 RAM.

Any input will be appreciated.

OC your 4770? If its locked OC the FSB or set the base clocks to turbo clocks.

You can get a Ryzen 1600AF for 85$ which is a 2600 or get the 2700X for ~140$ but you will need new motherboard and RAM.

I know I'd need new mobo and ram, that's why I'm trying to establish whether the upgrade is necessary first, don't want to spend money if new CPU would only perform slightly better with this GPU.

Thanks guys.
To be frank I did think of upgrading my mobo and CPU when I bought the GPU but I've never installed either mobo or CPU by myself so didn't feel confident doing it and thought for my needs 4770 will still suffice. I can see I was wrong.

The 4770 having 4 cores 8 threads, is still a good CPU for games right now, but the only real upgrade you should consider is Ryzen 3000 with 6 cores 12 threads as minimum. The Ryzen 5 2600 is only slightly faster than the 4770 and most games still don't need more than 8 CPU threads. For future upgrades, look at getting 12-16 threads with Ryzen 3000/4000 or Intel i7.
