Hey so i just finished my build today and im getting 60c on my 4770k while watching a youtube video. Is this normal i am using the stock intel fan with stock paste.

here are my specs.

CPU: I7-4770k.
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI formula.
PSU: Corsair Hx-1050.
GPU: HD-5450 getting a new one.
RAM: 16GB (8x2) G skill sniper 2400mhz.
Case: NZXT Phantom 820.

I plan on buying a new GPU and an h100i next month, but for now please help me should i apply new thermal paste would that help? is it showing the wrong temps or something?

thanks for the help in advance and have a great day.

I have no idea why your temps are that high, most people with that CPU, even with your stock cooler, usually see idle temps anywhere between 25-35C, not 60C. What software are you using to see your temps? That could be the issue.

when i first booted i checked in the BIOs and it was 60.
and CPUID HWMonitor. the cooler is a little loose but ive picked up the motherboard with it so i think it's installed correctly.

I don't know what the issue is, I would try uninstalling the cooler and CPU, checking for issues, re-installing, re-applying the thermal paste, making sure everything is assembled correctly, and give it another go. That's abnormally high, my overclocked FX-6350 at 4.4 GHz uses more power and generates more heat than your CPU, yet is 10C cooler than your CPU's idle temps, when mine is under full load. Granted, I do have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus, but that difference is way too drastic to be a good thing. My friend with the same CPU as me and the stock AMD cooler gets 56C on full load, so you are experiencing an abnormality.

What is your temps under load?

Try checking the pins of the heatsink and see if they fully attached. Also reapplying the thermal paste might help until your H100 comes.

I uploaded a screenshot. HW sais 44. Speedfan sais 30, which should i listen to.
Btw i had a loose pin on my heatsink. but i dont know which one is right speedfan or HWmonitor.

The stock coolers are kind of tricky to get down all the way, if you can feel it move at all it isn't right. Make sure you push the pins all the way down before turning them.

That's still a little high (mine would idle at around 28-31) . did you clean all the old heat sink compound off? The stuff that came on mine was all dried out. you may be able to change fan speed in bios.

i actually didn't put new compound on since all i did was push a pin down. you think that might be the problem?

Intel's stock fans are not enough to keep anything cool. Moreover Haswells runs tad hotter. Even if you don't do any overclock it's better to get a decent aftermarket cooler. Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is a great choice for the price. IC Diamond 7 is a very good compound and you can use it with 212 Evo as well.

I'm getting a swiftech h220. Or an h100i in a month don't have the money yet. I'm just asking if these temps are normal 50c idle?

Well 50C idle and 100C under load still looks hot. Try disabling Turbo Boost or at least Enhanced Turbo until you get a better cooling solution. This will help reducing your temperatures under load since your cpu will utilize way less voltage.

either way i talked to microcenter and they said they would return it, so i'm going to do that and see if the other one i get isn't as bad. What section would be best to ask about watercooling i already tried overclocking not many replies though.
