Hello all,

I'm currently using an Intel Q6600 and 8GB DDR2 memory on my PC. I'm looking to upgrade to a new build with 32GB RAM and a new I7 CPU primarily for running virtual machines in a Lab environment. Most of the posts here seem to be about gaming so my requirements are a little different.

I am currently looking at a I7 4770K. May try some overclocking too to squeeze some more juice out of it along with 32GB of DD3 1866 RAM and a 512GB SSD.

My query is that is a i7 4770K suitable or would you recommend another CPU?

Along with running my VMs, the machine will be used for normal (non gaming) everyday activities with a bit of video rendering for good measure.

Is the I7 4770K a good buy for me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Thanks for replying. I didn't think there were any virtualisation differences between the 4770 and 4770K - I'm on google now to find out!

This is quite interesting, I was also looking to buy the 4770k but as per intel specs on their website this cpu does not support virtualization. Does this mean I wouldn't be able to run virtual machines? Apparently the 4670k does support virtualization.

I use virtual machines a lot so would like to know if it is possible.
