Build - mobo :Gigabyte Z97x Gaming 5 | Case : Zalman MS800 with 1 120mm back fan |
CPU Cooling : Corsair H100i | PSU: Corsair CX600w | GPU : Powercolor R9 290x OC | Ram : 24GB(2x4gb kingston hyperblue x and 2x8 Beast - 16GB Kit* (2x8GB) - DDR3 2400MHz CL11 Intel XMP DIMM) | CPU : 4770k

Im a NOOB and trying my luck to overclock my system but when i start from 3.9 Ghz at Vcore 1.0
it is stable but when i increase the multiplier to 40 or 4.0Ghz and vcore 1.14 after 15mins prime 95 and max temp is 84 C then hangs then i increase vcore to 1.25 still hangs after 15 mins. then when i try my luck at 4.1 ghz at 1.25 vcore its a blue screen.. Im positive that my H100i is install and working properly. Is it because of my PSU? or i dont have the luck overclock my 4770k?
Please help...
Link i followed since we have the same bios of mobo :

Before you do anything else you need to re-install your cpu cooler with new paste making sure it seats properly. Your temps are too high no matter if that's your issue or not you need to eliminate this possible cause first before attempting any further overclocking

Solution

Yeah I know but that's something you can easily tick off of the list before returning your H100 for guarantee coz it's obviously not doing it's job if you hit 85C at 4.0GHz and 1.14V. Even simple aftermarket air cooler could keep that setting at 75C and below.

I don't think it has anything to do with your psu. Faulty under-volted or simply not strong enough psu would most likely cause throttling not overheating. Overheating happens usualy due to faulty cooling solution, not efficient enough cooling for the increas voltage going into cpu etc .
Did you try to clear cmos and measure temperatures then?

when you said if i tried to clear cmos does it means that i should remove the battery of my mobo? if thats the case then yes i did and it go back to 3.5 ghz on 28 c idle and 47 max on prime 95
