i7 4770k or i5 4670k for gaming

Okay. I have enough money for either one, so thats not a factor. I game A LOT. I know a lot of people have been saying hyper threading is useless, but I have heard of new games using hyperthreading and there was good fps bumps. BF4 is probably going to be cpu and gpu intensive on multiplayer so I think the threading will come in handy. Im also planning on getting star citizen which runs cryengine 3. Someone recently posted pics of MASSIVE fps gains on crysis 3 (which uses cryengine 3) this probably means star citizen will benefit from it...future games look like they're going to actually be using hyper threading. For older games its useless. But I want my new rig to be future proof. Oh and is the 4770k better at overclocking than the 4670k?

Lol, says the guy with the i7. But i font want a processor thats "just fine" i want a processor that can also handle photoshop. Oh yeah, and i also record my games so that uses extra cores. And im on skype while gaming as well. And stream my games...

As mentioned the i5 is still most likely... enough. Also, the un-official vernacular has been changed from "future proof" to "future resistant" when referencing PC builds =)

If you have the money..... go with the i7. Mine has been chugging along nicely for 4 years already. I built this system with a different video card(GTX 260 Max OC) with the idea I could make it last 5 years and I appear to be on target.

I may go with the i7 simply because i will be running a lot programs in the back and dont want to sacrifice gaming performance. Its about 70 dollars more..i can use that money on steam....hmm really hard choice.

For multitasking you mostly need higher ram such as 16GB or 32GB I know it depends on CPU too but mostly it depends on how much ram do you have.

Now we know that the next gen consoles are 8 cores...developers might start implementing "4 or more core games" it will be easier for them to port as well..so the hyperthreading may become beneficial. Probably going with the i7...i have a question about ram that you may have the answer to. I currently have 2x4gb sticks and 2x2gb sticks. They're all the same timings, mhz, and latencies and voltages.(and same brand and make)
In my mobo im planning on running the 2 4gbs in dual channel and the 2 2 gbs in dual channel, is this possible? Also, is it true the more ram sticks you have, the harder it will be to overclock? Someone told me that only applies to old chipsets, and the z87 and the 4770k obviously aren't old. An answer would be greatly appreciated.

Yes they are using 8 core cpu for consoles but keep in mind they are using AMD architecture to cut cost. There are multiple instances that when you game with the same GPU using a quad core CPU vs at 8 core CPU performance intel 4 core wins but only by a few frames. I suggest he should stick with the intel i5 quad core for now and invest in a good GPU instead. It will be a looooong wait before we see games utilizing more than 4 cores and besides its how the technologies being implemented or used and not the number of cores... it like the saying "quality of quantity" just my 2 cents.

My psu isn't supported...but I heard disabling the sleepstates actually helps overclocking so i will do that.
