i7 4770k vs Xeon 1230v3

Hey Guys,

My question here is, is the Xeon worth it over the 4770k?

I am getting a dedicated GPU but I´m kinda worried about what would happen if my GPU dies, will my computer be a brick untill I can afford a new one?

The Xeon is cheaper and has hyperthreading, but no integrated graphics, right?
Its more likely to receive a DoA video card, than having one die down the road.
So if you receive a faulty GPU you can just RMA it.

Given the cost difference, yes I think it is worth it, as you can get a far better GPU on the money saved. If you are concerned with lack of IGP, you can go with a 1245/1246v3. Still cheaper, just not as much. That or go to Ebay and pick up the cheapest PCI-E GPU you can find.

I just saw a 3770k on ebay for 250 bucks, is that worth it?

Used btw, by the pictures it seems to be in pretty nice condition, I also contacted the seller he said it was fully functional and it has not been overclocked.

If you overclock, go with the i7, otherwise, go with the xeon (which lets you save a bit more money by taking a h instead of a z board).
Chances of your gpu dying are quite small. I've had that once on my 9800 due to a manufactury issue, other than that, never heard of it. I still have some 20 years old gpu's here, working like on day one. 😉

You do make a good point.

The only other thing even though the Xeon is a tad bit slower and its not unlocked they are pretty much the same.

You can always buy a Cheap 20 card like a GT210 as a backup just so you can use it. or something a bit more powerful if you want.

Thanks Guys, I´ll be getting that Xeon then.

I will be getting the 1245 as logainofhades suggested, 270 bucks on amazon and it has an igpu just in case.
