Question i7 4790 vs i5 9400F?

Is it worth upgrading a i7 4790 to a i5 9400F?
Im aiming to do this in order to achieve higher fps in gaming, also reducing frame drops that im getting playing new games of higher settings.

But the 2600 performs about the same as the 9400f and costs less here.

It's a hard battle. 9400F is generally better than 2600 on gaming. Something up to 15%.

Still that, we can't ignore that Ryzen 5 2600 have more future proof since they have similar performance, but Ryzen have the double of threads. Which is already making difference on games like BF on MP (better frametime, slightly more smooth) or Shadow of the Tomb Raider in certain areas.

So IMHO, Ryzen 5 2600 would be a sighlty better choice than 9400F too. But I really understand people that would prefer 9400F instead. They're not wrong at all.
