Which one should I get? I know the GTX 770 is relatively faster than the 960, but the 4790K is better than the 4790. the 770 has 12GB RAM, the other has 8. Both have 2TB HDD's. Which one??

Solution
Get the 960. It is a Maxwell core, which has some advantages over the older Kepler based GTX 770. Nothing that is huge, but performance wise, these two cards pretty much run neck and neck. With Windows 10, and DirectX 12, the GTX 960 will support more features than the GTX 770.

I agree ^^^ but would add also that the unlocked "K" version of the CPU is better than the locked version as well, if for only longevity. If you want you can choose not to overclock it until out of the warranty period, then, overclock it to the max able and get a longer effective life out of the chip.

GPU's you'll change out every couple years but your CPU should last at least 4-6 years and not effect gaming performance, assuming that's the main purpose of the build. Even still, unless you're doing heavy video or photo editing, the CPU should last through several generations of GPU's. It should also be noted the 770 runs hotter than the 960, if thermals matter that can be a thing.

The K is a CPU thing. If it has the K, as in I7-4790K, it costs $20 more than an I7-4790 without the K. The K version allows you to overclock. However, these CPU's are so efficient and fast that they do not need to be overclocked to keep up with the GPU.

You are correct in that the K version allows you to overclock and if you dont plan on OC then usually you could get the non K. However with the i7 4790K the K version has a higher stock speed (non OC) than the regular i7 4790. So defiantly get the K version .
