I recently purchased a Noctua NH-D15 for my i7 4790k. After installation, I did an AIDA64 Stress test to check the temperatures, and found that coretemp recorded temperatures in the 80s Celsius at an overclock of 4.6GHz.

I was surprised by this and have since re mounted the cooler twice, and changed my fan curves on the asus fan xpert. I have the two cpu fans at 20% @ 35 degrees, 60% @ 40 degrees, and 100% @ 55 degrees, yet I am still getting high temperatures.

Here is a screenshot of coretemp after running AIDA64 for a few minutes:

I was expecting temperatures of around 60 degrees under load with this new cooler, instead I getting temperatures that fluctuate between 60 and 75.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated :)#

PC Specs:

CPU: i7 4790k @4.6GHz w/ Noctua NH-D15
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Ranger
GPU: GTX 760 Windforce
Case: NZXT H440 Red/Black
PSU: OCZ ModXStream 500W
Monitor #1: Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24"
Monitor #2: BenQ GW2255 60Hz 22"

Your temperatures look normal to me.
What is your ambient temperature?
What is your vcore under load?

How good is your case cooling?
Take the side covers off; if it makes a big difference, look to improve case intake airflow.

Do not worry much.
Normal operation will not reach stress test levels.
The processor will downclock or even turn off if it reaches dangerous levels.
That is about 100c.

If you look at the screenshot, you will see that my core voltage is 2.5, and my ambient temps are low 30s.

I feel like 2.5 is a bit too high, I'm able to get 4.5GHz @ 2.254 on the core on my 4790k

I don't know much about Intel core temps but what jumped at me is that you said you just installed this new cooler and have high temps from stress testing. What type of thermal paste are you using? Most if not all thermal paste have some sort of cure period where it recommends that you do not run any stress testing or overclocking until that period has ended. Arctic Silver for example it's 200 hours but I don't know about others.

I read that as vin, not vcore.
It is vcore that is important.
FWIW, I like o test with occt; I think it more correctly uses everyday instructions.

With an ambient in the low 30's, I think you are good.

I see you have a similar build to mine, same processor and almost the same cooler, what are your temps?

Even playing games like battlefield 4, my temps are reaching mid 60s. Any suggestions?

Are you guys sure that your voltage is 2.5 and 2.25? Because it seem to me that it is very high.

You guys probably meen:

1.5 and 1.25 right?
