Solution
The Xeon E5 1650 V3 is essentially the exact same thing as a , i7 5930K. Do not be fooled!

This Xeon 1650 V3 is unlocked, just like the 4790K.

Accept, the Xeon is a 6 core 12 thread monster. It is usually binned better than i7 chips. So overclocking it to 4.5Ghz is not a problem, and it will crush a 4790K in everything. Including gaming.

The only Xeons that are not unlocked are E5 2600 series.

A Xeon E5 1600 is a unlocked processor.

I will take the Xeon E5 1650 V3 any day over a 4770K, or 4790K.

Although it is a more expensive processor.

Xeons biggest advantage is for support of ECC memory, and a lot of it! This 1650 v3 can support 768 GB of DDR4.

Where as, a i7 can only handle 64/ to 128 GB of non ECC memory.

This Xeon will...

Is 5fps noticeable to the human eye or gaming in general? (i7 4790k vs i7 4770k.)

You would probaly go with the i74790k for gaming multi tasking or any other stuff. Xeon series are for Servers and ethusiasists just mentioned by sandstorm3000 and they are not suitable for gaming. 5fps isnt a problem unless youre running 30fps below.. which might lead to lagging.

This Xeon will crush any game, and any application around. Plus support more memory then a i7.

And it is UNLOCKED! THEY OVERCLOCK LIKE CHAMPS!

E5 2600 IS NOT UNLOCKED.

HINT THE "2" IN 2600, this series Xeon "2" 600 can support (2) physical processors on (1) motherboard.

Xeon 1600 is a single processor on (1) motherboard.

But, they are unlocked. Do not believe what others tell you.

Other similar chips, the Intel i7 5960X is the fastest. And at only 3Ghz is rules them all. Lol

A Xeon 1660 V3 is a 5960X, which both are unlocked also! Although, the Xeons have proven to OC better. As the i7 5960X flagship is a Xeon leftover part.

So the Xeon 2630V3 is a 5960X that is locked. But, it is also clocked lower.

Although the Xeon 2630 V3 can boost to 3.2Ghz giving a slight edge in performance over a stock 3Ghz 5960X.

Xeon 2630 V3 $599 3.2ghz boost

Intel i7 5960X $ 1,049 3.4ghz boost

The 2630 V3 can also support (2) running together on (1) board in even faster DUAL CPU performance. But this does equal $1,200 in CPU cost. But will smoke anything, pulling 21,000 in CPU passmark with (2) 2630 V3's clocked at only 2.4ghz each. Leaving the 5960X at only 16,000 in CPU passmark.

So you decide.

The Supermicro X10DAX is a great dual CPU board, and it supports overclocking! And SLI TOO!
