I7 4790K overheating to 78 degrees C

I recently built a system with 2 r9 290x's and an i7 4790k. I am cooling the i7 4790k with a cooler master nepton 280l with noctua fans. I am getting cs go temps of 78 degrees after 15 min of game time. I have the pump pluged into the cpu main fan slot. I have a fan spliter connected to the optional cpu fan powering the 2 noctua fans. the cpu idles at around 28 C

Yeah 78 is a bit high, aim for the 50-60 degrees as a MAX temp otherwise you are going to kill your CPU quicker

78C will not damage your CPU at all. Running in consistent 80's aren't even that bad but anything over 90C for extended periods are not good. 70's are completely fine but for your cooling setup you do have something a bit off because you should be with lower numbers.

Do you have any fans taking care of the heat from your 2 GPUs? Preferably not taking that air out of the case via radiator.
Because that is some HOT air.

What case do you have your setup installed into? Those 290X's are going to produce a lot of heat. Any other games showing same overheating symptoms? The 290X's could be heating up the surrounding components including CPU depending on how your radiator/fans are setup. Are you pulling in air from outside the case into the radiator or air from inside the case push/pull towards the outside of the case? How about trying a remount of the cooler itself, and maybe check the contact of the original thermal compound to the cpu.
