PC Specs:

ASUS ROG Maximus VII Hero
i7-4790k
Corsair H100i V2
ASUS GTX 980 TI Strix
Corsair AX760 PSU
32GB G-Skill RipJaw

This is the current build. I am using NXZT CAM to monitor Temps. I am using Corsair Link to monitor H100i V2. In CAM I am receiving 96c notifications on processor. The PC randomly shuts down and begins to lag and bog down after maybe 4-5 hours of use. I have tested the CPU with Intel Diagnostics and the CPU passes. On Stress test with Intel Diagnostics and AIDA I am not viewing any Temp Spikes above 60c. Cam reports 60-65c during these 100% Load Test, 34-40c at idle. The H100i V2 is running on quiet. With no other programs running putting it into performance mode the CPU Temps seem to jump to 60c momentarily in CAM. BIOS is reporting temps of 32-37c at idle. GPU runs smooth and nothing is overclocked or has been overclocked. The Cooler was installed roughly 3 weeks ago and applied with factory paste.

At the moment I am planning on wiping the OS and reinstalling Windows 10 (bleh) and testing the Corsair AX760 to see if the PSU is going bad. I am going to replace the Thermal as well. Could the Intel Diagnostic be reporting wrong? Any ideas on testing the Motherboard? I have noticed that despite FIOS speeds it is the only computer in the house which still runs slow on Ethernet. PC is about 3-5 years old

Any Suggestions or Other Ideas would be helpful.

A PSU wouldn't have anything to do with CPU temps *unless* you are getting severe +12v or +5v spikes overjuicing things. In my experience with a dying PSU, it generally just undervolts causing computer crashes.

I had the factory cooler on their for the entire life of the CPU and noticed the CPU temps spiking last month. Never a problem before then. It was doing it daily for about a week straight so I switched to the Corsair H100i V2 and the problem is still persisting. It was great for about a 2 week period now it seems to be back to spiking. I felt fairly confident about the H100i V2 since I have used it on two other machines in the house. Do you think it could be a faulty cooler?

Do you have the fan profile set aggressively on that cooler? Meaning that the radiator fans blow at max RPM say for something like capping temps at 60C? The fact that it has worked in other machines just fine is troubling. I'm assuming you know the pump is working for the coolant circulation.

The fans are running at normal speeds. Ive pushed them to Max RPM which pushes the temps quite a bit at the moment. It's really weird its just spiking, but not steadily holding those high temps, but on occasion enough to shut down the PC

HW Monitor is showing the same temps as BIOS at idle.

I have run this test on the AX760 PSU. Unfortunately it looks like the PSU may be bad. I get nothing from the fans. I double checked the Molex Cables on another PC and they seem to work no problem. Fans start right up.

Is it possible for the PC to still turn on even though the PSU appears to be faulty? I am unaware of an event where the PSU could affect the Temps of the CPU in such a way? I do know that the Case Fans are not starting without power coming off the Motherboard. Connected Directly to the PSU they do not turn on at all.

That was my though as well. The PSU is clearly faulty. I just have never seen a PC turn on and stay on for hours with a faulty PSU before. That has me nervous about plugging the PSU back in to check to see those voltage readings. The temps are sporadic and only spike every so often but even on an overnight test i see the spike for minutes at a time on an AIDA stress test.
