1.2 will probably be too low. Try 1.25.

If you get a BSOD, then increase the Vcore by .010 increments until stable.

This is all explained in detail in the 3 Step O/C Guide I linked for you above. Please read it rather than asking a lot of questions, so we don't have to write lengthy explanations for what's already been nicely written.

The voltage is stock voltage. Default settings will push the voltage to around 1.3V to run 4.4Ghz.
Did you clean your cpu cooler before applying new paste?
Did you install the cpu cooler correctly?
The temps look fine for an i7 4790k. What cpu cooler you are using?
You can try to set a lower manual voltage or use adaptive voltage in the bios.

These are my full specs

Intel™ Core i7 4790K @ 4.0Ghz
MSI 100 Million Edition™ GTX970 4GB
16GB DDR3 Corsair™ Vengence 1600Mhz Memory
MSI Gaming 5 Z97 Motherboard
SanDisk Ulta II 240GB SSD
Seagate 1TB HDD
Corsair™ RMI750i Fully Modular PSU

yup cleaned it over twice making sure nothing was left on the cpu or the heatsink im using the Gelid Tranquillo Rev 2 Heatsink has the evo 212 doesnt fit in my case.

Ok yea I had to verify that on mine and it doesn't match.

Here is it is under load:

Here is pic of XTU showing temps.

for good measure, pic at idle state:

To repeat, you need to find a way to reduce the boost voltage. It is not recommended go to over 1.3v while overclocking, let alone at stock boost.

what do you recommend i change it too cause im new to this and don't want my brand new chip damaged please help. :'(

nfxcr3w,

Yes, you're correct; the "K" version definitely runs hotter than the "non-K" version.

However, your Core temperatures are not too high. Anything under 80C is fine.

Here's the differences in spec's:

i7 4790K - http://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_40-GHz
88 Watts
4.0GHz / Turbo 4.4 GHz
Tcase 74C
Core Temp 79C

i7 4790 - http://ark.intel.com/products/80806/Intel-Core-i7-4790-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_00-GHz
84 Watts
3.6Ghz / Turbo 4.0GHz
Tcase 72C
Core Temp 77C

Your motherboard is setting the core voltage higher than necessary to maintain stability. You can decrease the core temperatures by setting your core voltage manually in BIOS.

Please refer to the following Guide which explains how to set Vcore: 3 Step Guide to Overclock Your i7 / i5 Haswell Platform - 3 Step Guide to Overclock Your i7 / i5 Haswell Platform

For more information on processor temperatures, please refer to this Tom’s Sticky: Intel Temperature Guide - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1800828/intel-temperature-guide.html

thanks for that i have been looking in the thread but im not sure what i should set the core voltage to would 1.200 be fine?
