Hello,

I am running an i7 4790k completely stock with a stock cooler and when playing The Witcher 3 I'm getting temperatures in the region of 90-95*C. I'm guessing that this isn't right and I would rather not play the game with those temps.

Any help would be appreciated.

Specs:
EVGA GTX 970 SC
i7 4790k Completely Stock with stock cooler
16GB DDR3 RAM 1333MHz Stock
Windows 10 64-bit

Solution
You can disable turbo boost in BIOS until you can get a better cooler. It will help with temps.

*If temps are still reaching 90C you can lower the multiplier/ratio for an effective underclock until you are satisfied with your temps.

I've had the CPU for a year. So the initial paste has been there for a year. It's running stock, no OC.

Right now on the desktop talking to you idle is at 34 Degrees Celcius

What I reccomend is to replace termal paste if you can. Then let me know about temprature. if it does not solve your issue you need to replace stock fan with better one. I am using same cpu.

Okay, now I'm slightly confused. When you said it would help with temps, it's lowered the temps by 26*C in the same area in the same conditions...

edit: I should also note, my framerate did not take a hit from this change. I still remained at 60fps

With the boost mode on it hit a high of 95*C, with boost mode disabled it hit a high of 69*

I am 100% going to get a new cooler and use some fresh thermal paste. I just wanted a solution for short term, so I can still play games. Thanks for the help
