If you can get the cpu for a reasonable cost, the i7's extra 400-500 Mhz and 4 more threads with hyperthreading will come in quite handy for gaming, especially with some of the newer games...
You don't want to pay too much for it, however, not with current R5-1600/ B350 MB prices, as now you simply need 16 GB of DDR4, and you are up to 2017-level at just a bit more cost..
