I'm considering between the i7-4790k and i7-4770k for a editing workstation build. The 4790k is a bit more expensive but I'm not sure if the price is justified for its performance.

You are making me jealous now. The only issue with my 4770K is for some reason, I can run 4.3 stable at 1.275, but when I go to 4.4 or past it, I have to jump to 1.4...

I had the same issue. I went with the 4770K because I am impatient. It depends on whether or not you are overclocking. The 4790K is a very good overclocker, but still needs the same voltage. I would get the 4790K unless the 4770K is on a huge price drop. You could delid, but that is another story.

Oh yeah. I didn't realize what I was missing with AMD. RAM performance doubled, and of course, the CPU performance did as well.

I recently installed a i7-4790K.
Since the retail prices are the same, there is no downside to the newer version.
But... some of the old units will get sold at a discount.
My impression from a limited time with it and a previous 4670K is good.
If you load the optimized defaults and run at 4.0 to 4.4 it runs cool and well.
When overclocking, you will run into the same limits at 1.25 volts and higher than previous 4770K did.
Namely heat rises rapidly past that.
My take is that for a new build it is worth it, but do not expect to see 5.0 overclock like early speculation.

The only issue with my 4770K is for some reason, I can run 4.3 stable at 1.275, but when I go to 4.4 or past it, I have to jump to 1.4 (4.5 GHz) or 1.45 (4.6 GHz) to be able to use the OS without getting WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. I am thinking it may be my RAM, though. That aside, the 4770K is a great chip and the 4790K is even better.
