Hello! I recently tried to install an i7-4790k on my board, and it will not boot. It runs, fans going and all, but the board shows nothing on the little LCD that usually shows temperature. I was planning on upgrading from my current G3220, but I am just getting disappointed and losing faith.
I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest from the Biostar website (Z87CF703.BST) using the BIOS updater. Nothing. The website does state that this chip will work on this board. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe it's a bad chip? Nothing looks busted or fried on the chip, bought it brand-spanking new from Newegg.

Thanks in advance!

Well updating the BIOS was the first thing that came to mind when I read the subject. Are you sure it updated? I can't think of any other reason for it not to work unless the i7 is bad which is doubtful. I would contact Biostar and ask them. Worst case scenario you can RMA the i7. Newegg has great customer service.

Maybe somebody else knows something I don't. I don't have very much experience with Biostar.

Thanks for the reply.

As of this moment, I have contacted Biostar asking them if they have any ideas. And yes, I ran the Biostar BIOS updater and had it update from the internet. the 703.BST file is the latest, unless I really really messed that up. I guess you could go look at the motherboard page and see if I missed something? I was going to contact Newegg via live chat, but today was obviously not a good day for that ;) (hour and a half wait time, 99th in queue)

I may just have to get ahold of Newegg via one method or another and try an RMA. I'd hate to not be able to use this chip, as I'm sure you could imagine. Keeping my hopes up as best I can!

P.S. I have done a bit of searching on this issue already, coming up empty-handed. :S

Sorry I never got back to this, turns out I did not update the BIOS properly! Haha, everything in that regards is running smooth now. Only thing left is monitor issues after Windows 10, hmm....
