Hi. I'm looking to get a new computer built, I wont build it myself as its too much money to mess around with. my budget is around €1500 and I narrowed it down to these two set-ups. it might be better to go with the newer CPU because it will be upgradeable in the future without having to replace the mother board. I'm planning to get it off PC specialist or Over clockers (If you know of any other good companies). It'll be used mainly for gaming but I wont be able to upgrade for two years so it either needs to be somewhat future-proofed

I'm really stuck when it comes to deciding between these two set-ups so please help

The 980 and 4790K would be the better choice, you get a better GPU and you get hyperthreading (which may improve performance depending on what games you play/what applications you use)
Personally 6600k you have to go for the new chipset! both graphics are great but if you could get the 980 now that will be more future proof of the two especially if you want to play at greater FPS

I'm assuming he can't get the i5-6600k with the 980 because it's a prebuilt PC. Of these two options the i7-4790k paired with a 980 should be the better gaming PC. Both the CPU and GPU are faster and the i7 has hyperthreading for anything that can take advantage of more cores.

The only real advantage the i5-6600k and 970 build has is that the CPU is Skylake. This is the newer platform but if you are buying a prebuilt PC you probably won't be upgrading your CPU in the future. Even if you wanted to upgrade, Intel changes out their motherboard sockets pretty frequently. By the time you had a need to upgrade from an i5-6600k the new Intel CPUs wouldn't be compatible with your motherboard anyways.

The i7-4790k is a better CPU than the i5-6600k even though it's a generation older. Even the i7-6700k would only be slightly better than the 4790k. I would definitely choose the 980 and 4790k build.
