So just the other day I bought a i7-4770s from Amazon and upgraded from an i3-4130 to the i7. Everything went fine, and then I got an e-mail from Amazon recommending other products "I might be interested in". One of them was the brand new i7-4790s just released this Sunday on Amazon. *facepalm* The i7-4790 only difference is a 100mhz higher base and turbo clock (3.1-3.9 vs 3.2-4.0) and it is only $2 more. It is too early to get exact benchmarks comparing how much of a benefit is reaped by that extra 100mhz. Is it worth exchanging the two processors? Would It effect any of my applications? I would assume that the new 4790s would work with my mobo, but I could be wrong. Btw I am using the s versions because I am using an energy efficient build so the s versions are a must.

Here are my specs if it makes a difference
CPU: i7-4770s
GPU: EVGA GTX 750 ti SC
RAM: 32gb DDR3 1600mhz
SSD: x2 Samsung 840 pro in RAID0, 32gb ubuntu boot mSATA SSD
HDD: 1tb Solid State Hybrid Drive from Seagate
ODD: LG Blu-ray RE 12x drive
NIC: Intel Gigabit adapter (forget exact model number)
Soundcard: Asus Xonar DG

Case, PSU, and Mobo are proprietary from Lenevo thinkserver ts140. Mobo uses c226 southbridge chipset.

Lol no. Even if you were able to pick up a 4770k and overclock it to 4.5ghz I still wouldn't recommend spending any cash. Any difference is in the eye of the beholder. If you like looking at benchmarks and relishing in 5-10 second differentials then sure why not.

Stick with what you have. No tangible difference.
