Currently I am running 16gb quad channel RAM @2400mhz CL15. My question is: is it worth it to overclock the memory to 2666mhz or even 3000mhz? I use the system mainly for gaming.

It would be super nice if anyone could give me an advise, I searched the web before but nobody seems to test x99 in regards to RAM speed.

PS: please excuse my english (I am from germany ;))

I have Overclocked the 5820K to 4.2GHz @1.185v. The memory seems to be very touchy. @ 2666mhz CL15 (from 2400 CL16) and 1.28v the system is able to run the aida64 stresstest for hours. But when I restart my computer, a lot of the time it needs 2 or even 3 start-ups to boot.

Yes it may have corrupted data on your ssd/hdd. Leave the memory on factory settings, if you really want faster memory go for a xmp certified kit at the desired speed, meddling with memory can cause lots of troubles and the gains are very very small.(at least for intel case, for ryzen is another talk)
