Hello! I am currently building a new PC and want to know which processor is the best option to choose. Currently, I'm mostly into harcore gaming at 1440p and might start streaming soon. I was thinking about getting the I7-5930K but I heard there is alot of problems or faulty X99 motherboards. I'm trying to decide between these three and I'm liking the new I7-6700k which I'll most likely end up get the Asus Maximus VIII Hero. Thanks! :)

Solution

My thoughts exactly. If you weren't starting from scratch and already had DDR3 ram ready to be used, I would've said go with the 5930k, but since you're building a new PC and the prices of DDR3 and DDR4 are already very similar, go for the I7-6700k. The LGA1151 socket is going to be around for the next generation of processors, maybe even the one after that.

If you're building from scratch, I would choose the 6700k simply because it's compatible with DDR4 RAM and is known to offer some very good headroom when it comes to overclocking, if your cooler is good enough. That's if you're really planning on streaming. If you're not going to stream, then an I5-6600k will offer you pretty much the same performances in gaming for about 100$ less. Neither the 980ti, the Titan X or the R9 FuryX would be bottlenecked by that I5.

Yeah, the main idea of this build is to future proof. Another factor is the motherboard. I haven't heard good things about the X99 motherboards with alot of people saying they ran into problems less then a year later. I don't know much about the Z170. If you know any good Z170 motherboards to check out that would be great.

They've not been out for that long, so obviously we don't know everything yet, but based on the reviews, an Asus Z170-A would be a very good option

No problem! You might want to pick a solution, so others with the same question can find it more easily and conclude the thread as solved! Good luck with your build and happy gaming 😛
