Hi Guys

I got my rig around the beginning of the year. And I just noticed that my cpu idel temperature is around 55 to 58 all the time recently. I am not sure if it is the hot weather (It is summer is Australia). But recently, I started to look into the overclocking of GPU. I currently mount 2 way sli of msi gtx980 oc and I did a little overclocking for 4k gaming(MSI Afterburner). But I did not overclock my cpu at all.

Power limit: 105
Core Clock: 40
Memory Clock: 80
Auto fan profile

It is really a lite overclock, even though I don't think it matters a lot, but just want to mention it. My gpus seems fine in terms of temperature after oc, around 38 to 40C at idel and below 70C when gaming.

What is really concern me is the cpu temperature. It stays 55 to 58 when idel as mentioned above. And under a quick 5 mins stress test using aida64, it reaches 83 on full load.

Is it something wrong? is my water cooling system not able to hold it?

My specs are

i7 5820k 3600 MHz

MSI x99s SLI Plus

MSI Gtx980 OC 2-way sli

32GB DDR4

Corsair Hydro H75 Liquid cooler

NZXT Phantom 530

700w ATX 80 Plus Gold

1. What is the ambient temperature of the room. This might be a critical factor, if your room is at 40 degree, you shouldnt expect your CPU to be at 25.

2. Overclocking SLI-ed GPUs can bring lots of heat in your case if there's not proper airflow to dissipate it. Check you case and GPUs temperatures.

3. Make sure the cooling system is installed correctly: not applying enough thermal paste, putting too much thermal paste, misplacing the CPU block can cause high temperatures.

Sorry for the late reply, got caught up on work. Thank you for your response.
I admit it is fairly hot in the room back then. I reckon it might be around 30C. But now the room temp is got to be only 20 and the cpu stays in around 48c, which again not a total good idel temp as a result of a liquid cool, I think or is it? I am really do not know what to think....

I double check the installation of the h75, it seems all fine due to its easy installation set up and the thermal paste should be finely applied as well, because I used the pre-applied from the h75, which might not be that good but still can hold its weight.

My sli is constantly running on 34 to 38c on idel as well. then only thing I am concerned about is the air flow of my case. When I got the rig put together, I am not prepared it for a massive overclock (and I did not) and I leave the case with it factory fans which are a 200mm in the front and one 140mm in the rear. Is it not efficient enough to hold the air flow of the case itself?
