Hey guys i have two nearly identical builds the only difference being the cpus and Mobos.

my question is, for gaming which is better the 6700k or the 5820k?

if there are any questions let me know

cheers

I'm just going to make it simple.

Ones obviously better than the other

And by looking at the benchmarks the 5820k is the best with the score of around 12,000 which would make it more suitable for gaming
Where the other is around 10,000

Hope this helps :)

I didn't think to check benchmarks i just looked at CPUBoss and based on that the 6700k is better but ill go with the 5820k

Cheers mate

I'm going by these.
I find it more reliable :)

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-5820K+%40+3.30GHz

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-6700K+%40+4.00GHz

but as tsuneo6 said
the benchmarks could be referring to rendering, etc

the i7 6700k ios better in gaming performance(better single core performance), while the 5820k will be better when it comes to rendering and multitasking etc.

also, for gaming you might asdwell go with the i5 6600k as the gaming performance of the i5 is nearly identical to the i7's. safe some bucks and invest in a better GPU or so.

Hello,
I'm going by this website
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-5820K+%40+3.30GHz
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-6700K+%40+4.00GHz

I find it more reliable
But possibly the website marked it wrong.

I'd go for whatever is cheaper.

My cpu is the i5 4590 and it plays the latest games without a sweat

Look at the single threaded rating on the two links you just sent me. The 6700k is significantly better. Take my advice, if gaming is your primary concern, 6700k > 5820k.

benchmarks =/= gaming performance. ofc a 6 core/12 logic core CPU will have better benchmarks than an octacore. but the i7 6700k's single core performance is better, so it it indeed better for gaming than the i7 5820k(see me previous comment)

You are most likely correct.
I'm not here to fight

I'd go for whatever is cheaper at the time

Wow, this thread. Things to note

1.) The realistic difference in gaming between the 5820K/4790K/6700K at the same clock with otherwise identical systems would be 2-4fps relative. Unless we're talking 3 or 4-way crossfire/SLI, then the 5820K is better at gaming hands down.

2.) I have productivity tasks! I don't just game! The 5820K is best? Not always. Certain apps scale well enough to make utilization of 12 threads. If you're into synthetic benching or host a copious amount of virtual machines or do 3D rendering, then yes the 5820K would be an excellent buy.

The advantage to the 4790K is having access to lower latency 2133 & 2400 for better overclocking. Though with X99 you can make use of quad channel memory for less stress on the controller. Though worthwhile overclocking kits are few.

Few games can use more than 2-3 cores, making the extra hyperthreads of the i7-4790K and the I7-6700K largely irrelevant.
Fast cores help, and the slower clocks of the 5820K are not so good for gaming.
With sklylake, you get some 5-10% better performance per clock compared to haswell. My take is that a i5-6600K with a decent overclock is the best cpu for gaming. The 6700K is equally as good, but $100 more.
Then, the Skylake Z170 chipset allows the use of much faster M.2 and sata express type ssd devices.
