Hi everyone!

After pulling an all-nighter, I'm on here on a quest to find out why my framerate is so low in GTA 5!!!!!!! Is my computer bottlenecking? I thought I would have been good for 10 years with the 5930k, minus upgrading to a pre-owned graphics card - in this case a Aorus Xtreme 1080 ti :love:.

The 5930k is OC to 4.5 @ 1.285 and the Aorus Xtreme 1080 ti is sitting in the OC Mode

List of my computer components;

CPU: Intel - Core i7-5930K 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor

Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB AORUS Xtreme Edition 11G Video Card

CPU Cooler: Corsair - H100i 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Motherboard: MSI - X99S SLI Plus ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard

Memory: Crucial - Ballistix Sport LT 8 GB (4 x 4 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory

Storage: Samsung - 860 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($139.99 @ Amazon Canada)

Storage: Western Digital - WD Green 2 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive

Power Supply: Corsair - Professional 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Monitor: LG - 25UM58-P 25.0" 2560x1080 60Hz Monitor

Images below show the fps, gpu usage core usage, ram usage,

Some things I've done to attempt to fix the issue;

- unlocked all cores from bios/unpark them

- Fresh install of windows, and GTA 5.

- Used DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) twice and reinstalled the nvidia drivers

- Turned of v-sync where applicable

- Turned off all the settings in nvidia control panel

- Disabled Xbox DVR

- Used XMP to increase the ram from 1800hz to 2666hz

- Updated drivers across the board.

- Adjust settings on Windows 10 for performance

I'm sure there's more that I had done, but I'm literally falling asleep as I type this - my last sentence was a bunch of e's.

I graciously ask for the help from the folks @ Toms :)!

At 1080p, you probably do have a bottleneck with a 1080ti. Those HEDT chips are not really made for gaming. They can game, but not as good as the more nimble CPUs. Those chips are for workstation task.

I think you system is performing fine. You just need a new monitor. Get a 1440p/144hz panel. It is a complete waste of money to run that system on a 1080p/60hz panel.

Thanks, Feelinfroggy777! More or less, if I want to utilize my 1080 ti, I need a 2k/4k monitor?

This is my first time researching into bottlenecking, but I'm guessing it pretty much means that my card overpowers the cpu and just does some funny business while posting to the monitor?

As you lower the resolution, the GPU has to work less but the CPU still has to work just as hard to get those high fps. Thus, you have a bottleneck, or weakest link. At 1080p, the card overpowers the CPU. But it wont at 1440p because the GPU will have to work harder to push the extra pixels.

Thanks again for clarifying!

I usually am using a G-Sync 1440p 144hz+ monitor, but I can't find anyone selling used. I buy used w/ receipt & warranty, use it for like 2-3 months and sell it for more or equal to what I received it for.

In your opinion, if I keep I sell my used 1080 ti and buy a 2080 ti next year for example, how long do you think my setup will last? I was hoping of getting 10 years out of it. It's been a solid 4, so I really can't complain.
