Hello everyone! I have been wanting a new PC for a while now, im buying one for christmas. Keep in mind i will be gaming at 1080p maxed out. Here's the specs:
Intel Core i7 5960X
GTX 780 TI Twin Frozr/Radeon r9 295x2
2 TB hard drive
16 GB 2800 MHZ ram
800 watt PSU
Ok so I have some questions
1. Will the 3.00 GHZ on the 5960x make a big performance difference from the 4790k?
2. Should I get the r9 295x2 instead of the 780 ti? Will I get more performance?
3. Will this system run Crysis 3, BF4, and ArmA 2 DayZ at above 80 fps with 4X AA? Thanks to all whom help!

Solution

He's simply right. The i7 4790k on stock is better for games than the i7 5930k. Overclocked, aswell. You can typically get the i7 4790k to 4.8ghz, the i7 5930k to 4.5ghz. No game currently out...
If you are buying one at Christmas, then maybe it is worth waiting for the 900 series which is soon to be released from what I have heard.

1) The i7-5960X will apparently overclock better than the i7-4790K.
2) Like I said maybe consider the 900 Series.
3) Need to know if you are playing at 4K.

1: It depends, in applications that use 4 cores or less (ie most games) the 4790K will beat the 5960X because of the higher clockspeed. In programs that use more than 4 cores the 5960X is king.

2: The R9 295x2 beats the 780 Ti no problem, the R9 295x2 is a dual GPU card though so keep that in mind. Price to performance I'd prefer the 780 Ti or the R9 290x. The GTX900 series is right around the corner though, you may want to wait for that.

3: Depends on the graphics card, the 780 Ti will do 60+ while the 295x2 will probably do 80+ (assuming 1080p).

I agree with this. Even then X99 platform is overkill for 1080p gaming. Granted it should last quite awhile, though. The $670 savings versus the 5960x, would be better spent elsewhere. An R9 295x isn't a bad choice, since the price drops.

Yes, I will be gaming at 1080P, but I was wondering if the 5960X will have better gaming performance. I do know the 5960X will have an INSANE advantage in DayZ over the 4790k. But I'm not so sure about Crysis and BF4

^ whre do you get this cpu info from, a i5 4690k will be fine, dayz, even it is cpu intensive, is only using quad, not hex core, a i5 or a i7 4790k will be fine, more money to spend on the actual gpu itself, like sli 780ti, now that will help your fps performance in dayz etc, not a better cpu

I know it might be "Overkill" but when I bought my current rig, which has a 660, people said it would be fine. Now it gets 50 FPS on games

I'm getting the CPU info off of CyberPowerPC, thats where I'm building. And yes, I know I could build it myself, and knowing myself I would probably fuck something up. I'd rather be comfortable paying another few hundred knowing my PC is ok. And I'm not going for an I5, I'm going all out on this PC. I don't want an I5, I've been saving 2 years for this. And If I get a 4790K, the 5790k will probably come out, So I want the most updated hardware possible. And I don't really want SLI 780 TI's because I will be gaming at 1080p. From what I know SLI doesn't change 1080p performance too much.

^ companies like cyberpower pull wool over lots of customers' eyes because a fair assumption would be that people who buy pc's premade might not know a lot about them? So things like '16gb of ram will help you get better fps in games', wrong. 'a i7 or a x99 cpu will get way better frames than a i5 in games' , wrong. the x99 are for people who render or do intensive tasks for a living, I'm sure cyberpower have a option to change it to a i7, that'll be cheaper and last just as long as the x99's. And you say sli doesn't change performance too much on 1080p, neitehr will a x99 over a i7 4790k, even a i7 will last you 6 years or more with no bottleneck AT ALL, don't believe the marketing

Sorry if I said the I7 will have more FPS in games. I meant to say I want the best that I can get. Now I never said this but I do also record videos, edit them, and upload them to YouTube. But 95% of my time will be gaming. I really just want x99 because its the newest, most updated hardware. Thats really the reason I have been chasing it. I'm now thinking about getting an i7 5930k now, seeing as it has a higher core clock and its almost the same performance for way less cash. Any suggestions on that?

I'm from the US. Just wondering will the 4790k be out of date soon with a 5790k or something like that? Also, if I don't get the 5960x than how much FPS will I lose while gaming as apposed to the 4790k? And yes, I do have a local PC repair shop.

Ask your pc repair shop to build it for you if you pay them like $50, you can then have the freedom of choosing your own board, own case, and own gpu, 3 things which are quite important, not to mention the psu too, and not a single fps drop, most games rely on gpu power and whilst dayz is quite cpu intensive, it's nothing the i7 4790k can't handle, it won't be out of date for another 6-8 years

With CyberPower you CAN choose your own parts and cases. It's fully customizable. The Case I will be purchasing is a Corsair 750D. I like the features and I've heard it has amazing cable management and airflow. Also do you have expeirence with ArmA 2 DayZ? Because that engine is very poorly coded. With a GTX 660 and AMD FX 6200 I only get 20 fps in cities and 40 in forests. But I don't know I'm still considering the 5960x or the 5930k. Well, I guess it's partially because of bragging rights

Thanks, I've been considering the 5930k as legend has been helping me out on this thread. And not to sound stupid but what are 2x 16x pcie lanes?

^ the only person losing over the bragging rights would be you, x99 will not help at all and you lose a lot of money and cyberpower have a limited type of gpu's, they only have the stock cards or the evga or sapphires. not to mention that you will be saving 500 dollars or more building it yourself or, getting your pc shop to build it for you. and a i7 4790k with a 780ti will be fine for dayz, max settings 70fps or more

So a CPU doesn't matter all that much in gaming? It's more the GPU right? I thought the CPU MASSIVELY helped. The way you're making it sound is that it doesn't help all that much at all.

Ahhh ok and another question, is a GTX Titan Black better than a 780 ti? And now im stuck between a 5930k and a 4790k :D
