i7-6500U vs i5-6200U

I have the option to get my XPS 13 with an i7 instead of an i5 for £50 more. Does it worth it?

I should have added what I will be doing, stupid me.

I am studying computer science (year 2 atm) at the moment so I will be multitasking that's for sure. Running programs like Unity, Netbeans, Visual Studio, Chrome (4 tabs minimum), opening PowerPoint slides, PDFs, Word docs, Photoshop...

For example a typical case would be having the following programs open:

  ■ Unity / Netbeans / Visual Studio / Photoshop

An extra 200MHz / 300MHz is pretty decent for an extra £50. You will not be able to notice the difference in everyday tasks, but it could be a difference for very CPU intensive tasks.

Personally, I would pay for the extra performance because I sometimes encode full length movies with very high quality settings with my desktop / laptop so paying a little more to shave a little bit of time off the encoding process would be worth it for me.

Thanks, I think I'll go for the i7 after all, it should increase the resale value of it as well if I decide to sell in a couple of years.

Not about the speed, man, i7 is called "premium".

If you tell your friend who doesn't know of hardware
that you have i5, he will say it is much slower than i7 (not true)

So I will pay the extra money for the premium CPU (and maybe even a sticker of core i7)
