I just built a new PC i have the i7 6700 not the 6700K
and an asus z170 pro gaming motherboard.

i was getting horrible FPS in games like CSGO and Arma 3.
So i know there is a problem.
Im currently running a stress test on the CPU and its at 100% and the core speed is at 803.51 MHZ

ive tried everything i can think of.
Ive reseated everything
updated bios and chipset.
unplugged gfx card and tried onboard video.
i just dont know what to do anymore.

Please help ive done lots of googling and everything is for the 6700k

Solution
Ok, I had a similar prob, go to bios, to cpu, maybe OC genie. The. Send a pic. If you can't send a pic, tell me what the ring ratio is. ( *32* x 100mhz, what is the 32, or 8 or what?)

I had same problem with cpu stuck at 800Ghz. Solved by watching one video.
Actually i downloaded "ThrottleStop" and just take of mark from "BD PROCHOT" and save it.
Hope it will help to someone :)

This is apparently an issue with the Z170s. The "Intel Adaptive Thermal Monitor" is getting tripped erroneously and it's throttling the CPU down to 800mhz. Your CMOS should have a setting to disable the Intel Adaptive Thermal Monitor under the CPU Features in Overclocking.

I had to register for helpful hint, it was it. Thank you, regard
