i7 6700 vs i7 7700 (new build)

is it worth to build new gaming PC with 7700(non K) than 6700(non K)? please note that price different between 6700 vs 7700 is almost 40$ in my country.. should i just go with i7 6700? i don't plan to OC.

gaming 1080p 144hz, 16gb ram, 550 psu, gtx 1070..

thanks anyway. any suggestions would be appreciated..

If you're looking to save some money, the i7-6700(non K) will do you just as well in games.

CPU's can be annoying to upgrade, so I always go for the fastest I can afford and hold off upgrading as long as possible.
A GFX card on the other hand is easy to swap and easy to sell 2nd hand.

The 7700 will give you quite significant gains in both IPC and clock speed, definitely worth a $40 increase imo.

There are no IPC gains between the 7700 and 6700. All you get is an extra 200 MHz of clock speed, corresponding to a 5-6% increase (depending on whether you look at base or boost). Unlikely you'd ever notice the difference outside of benchmarks. Given that there's a $40 difference in price for the OP, the 7700 offers only slightly better performance and worse performance per dollar.

Despite what people saying there no gain" there indeed minor gain in performance, but again Skylane users upgrading to a Kaby Lake might not like it. They are waiting for Intel i5 8600K or something.

Nah, very little gain in IPC, there's good clock improvements though.
It is just to make the most of the 14nm process given they're slowly getting smaller and potentially closer to a wall.
