Hello there,

I've recently upgraded my internet to 1000 mbps, however i can't reach a speed higher than 750 mbps. I've checked and rechecked all the hardware, and then recently realized that the speed stops going higher when one of the threads (CPU 0) reaches 100%. Understandable, however what i don't get is why it doesn't use other cores as well. I've tried making windows boot using all 8 threads however that didnt change anything, and i've also checked the affinity of chrome, it s set to use them all by default. I can't think of another way to fix this which is why i'm here. Any advice? I should also specify that what i found weird is that the first time i connected using the new speed, i ran a speed test and it did reach 990 mbps, so this is weird. The connection is through PPPoE throguh fiberlink (no router) but i doubt that's relevant
Thanks for your help in advance!

CPU: i76700k
MOBO: Maximus Hero Alpha VIII

Cheers!

Solution
Well, problem solved. In case anyone else will ever have this problem in the future, the solution is buying a router.
I've decided to buy a router since i needed it anyway to see whether the same thing would persist if i connect the pc through the router. I've got a whooping 940 mbps while the cpu stayed under 70% load. So i suppose it's yet another windows 10 bug...it's weird tho. Why in the world would it overload the cpu when connected directly, thus limiting the speed? Will most likely remain a mystery for a couple of months lol...I can finally get my work done faster! Cheers to whoever is reading this!

P.S: im new so, how in the world do you mark the thread as solved? 😛
Yeah, ofc. Plus i already reached 990 mbps at first, started having this problem today. No changes and no new software installed or anything. Checked with their technical team too, all's good on their side. And it works as it s supposed to on their laptop.

While I understand your frustration regarding this kind of issue, I can't help but think that the use of the words ''I'm desperate'' is somewhat unjustified considering that even at 750mbps, you still have access to a faster internet than 99.5% of the planet's population. Here in Montreal, Canada, The fastest consumer grade internet I can have access to was 300mbps the last time I checked, and it was over 200$/month.

I wish you good luck with fixing your issue, but you should consider yourself lucky to be in one of the areas where Fiberlink is available. 😛

I am grateful! Of course i am. Just like i'm grateful for everyone trying to or even willing to help me, even though a complete stranger on the internet 😛 I mean after all, Fiberlink is one of the few exceptional things we have here in Romania.

I was referring to this issue in particular as i've spent a couple of days just reading and searching with no result whatsoever which is building up my frustration. The irony is that i just upgraded from 600 mbps and signed a 2 year contract for 1000 mbps, which of course means paying more money. I needed that due to the nature of my work which involves uploading and downloading very large files every day. So the thought that i'm stuck paying extra for almost the same service is what's making me so anxious about finding a fix to this and what made me use the "d" word 😛 haha 😛
