So I currently have an ASUS B150M-PLUS D3 MoBo, compatible with DDR 3 RAM

I was thinking of upgrading from my current i5 6500 to the i7 6700k but i am aware that it is meant to work with DDR4 ram (I think) .

I would like to not buy DDR4 ram given he current price hike and use my current DDR3, i fell across this on UserBenchmark
http://www.userbenchmark.com/System/Asus-B150M-PLUS-D3/19911#Benchmarks
A list of benchmarks with the MoBo i have now using DDR3, this gives me a little hope that it would work but i would liek to ask here if it is abad idea to go ahead with my plan.

From what i can see the MoBo has a bios version for the cpu https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/B150M-PLUS-D3/HelpDesk_CPU/

Solution
Really neither the the 6500 or 6700 should be used with DDR3, only DDR3L (low voltage). Prolonged use of DDR3 can damage the cpu memory controller due to the higher voltage.
