So I just recently set up my rig this week and I've installed everything and have it pretty much set up. Here's my rig set up:

-i7 6700k
-Asus Rog Maximus Hero VIII
-Kraken x61
-Gskill trident series 16GB 3200
-1000w rosewill

After I got everything installed I did a lot of research on how far I can overclock my CPU and so far the average I've found from various professional guides such as linus tech tips and NCIX and other threads on Tomshardware is 4.7 at around 1.325v. Set up my cpu and voltages through BIOS and ran some stress tests (CINEBENCH & RealBench) and my temps only reach around high 60s. Cinebench tests went really well but when I ran the realbench 2 hour stress test, I returned to my computer with my screen black and my keyboard/mouse not working. My computer was still on with all the fans running but my monitor wouldnt show anything. Any ideas on what went wrong?

I have a very similar setup, I have done minor overclocking with mine as Im sitting at 4.5ghz at 1.26V. LLC level 5. My temps 100% under load only reach 58C. Ill probably try for 4.7 but likely will need to bump my voltage to 1.3 to make it happen.

What you experienced was a hard crash/freeze. Your overclock was not stable even if it went for 2 hours. I would lower the overclock, try stresstesting again at 4.5 and 4.6 before you jump to 4.7. You need to go in increments. Some extreme overclockers hit 5.0ghz but insane high volts. At 4.7 seems like the standard OC for the 6700k to sit comfortably if you can get it stable. Also just to add about the increments, not every chip can hit the same frequencys, some may not do well with...

I'm sure I wouldnt spend almost 2k on this setup if I was just going to use it for school work and browsing the internet. Built and entire new rig because my computer before couldn't handle all the streaming, gaming, and video editing that I was putting it through. All this makes all of that a lot easier and faster.

Take your time with your overclocks and keep an eye ln your temps. Make sure you voltage is set to manual so it doesnt fluctuate so much.

That kind of thing happening means your overclock is too high for the voltage. You can down-clock or increase the voltage.

If it were me, I'd increase the voltage to 1.35v and run RealBench again -- though two hours isn't enough for that mid-level stress test. I test for eight hours with that.

If it still doesn't pass at 1.35v, I'd recommend a maximum of 1.375v on that cooler. If you can't make 4.7GHz stable with that voltage, try to get 4.6GHz stable.
