So I just upgraded my i5 6500 to an i7 6700k and after doing benchmarks, my 6500 was so much better! I had my i5 clocked at 4.4ghz stable with two 980ti's in sli and it benchmarks higher than my i7 at 4.7ghz stable. I feel like there is something wrong here. I bought the i7 brand new but Im seriously thinking about returning it and going back to my i5. I was using Valley benchamrk 1.0 direct3d11 1080p 8xAA and on extreme HD to run the benchmarks. The i5 scored 6198 with average fps at 148.1. Min fps was 46.4 and max was 221.6. The i7 scored 5836 with average fps at 139.5. Min was 46.5 and max was 221.8. Hyperthreading was turned off because with it on, the performance was a lot worse. 980ti's are up to date and stock frequencies. Really hoping someone can help me cause I feel like i have either a really good i5 or a bad i7

Keep an eye on your clockspeed. As long as it's staying at the clock you set, any performance issues you're seeing are almost certainly not related to the CPU itself. It could well be software, or maybe a BIOS issue (try updating it and resetting it).

Yeah but I havent changed my gpus either so I dont know why I cant reach the 6198. And At stock frequency on the i7 I was only getting 5292. I really only play gta 5 and I feel like Its performing around the same. But kinda seems like its dropping into the 70s more isntead of high 80's like it usually is in 1440p

Well It still doesnt make sense that Im getting an extra 1000 on my benchmark from i5 6500 at 4.4ghz to i7 6700k at 4ghz when the gpu's have never been overclocked. And even at 4.7ghz, Im still getting 400 less than my i5. And like I said, I see dips in the low 70's on gta 5. And gta 5 does take advantage of the extra cores. Its a processor base cpu and ive seen other benchmarks and youtube videos showing the differences with the skylake processors. I got over a 20fps average increase on gta 5 when I went from 3.2ghz to 4.4ghz. But I dont get any better performance going from an i5 at 4.4ghz to an i7 at 4.7ghz?

I did update the bios because I thought that could be a big problem but it didnt help. And Ill keep an eye on the clock speed too
