I am having troubles getting my cpu to the right click speed. I have tried everything I have found on the interned other than reinstalling my OS. I recently upgraded the mobo, CPU and RAM in my rig to the MSI Gaming M7 mobo and the i7 6700k CPU with G SKILLZ Trident Z RAM. Windows and the BIOS both boot up with no problems except the speed because the CPU won't run above 815 MHz. I have updated the BIOS and have checked power options and have reset the Motherboard and I have checked the slow speed switch and I have gone through the BIOS multiple times to find the problem but I just cannot find a thing. I am thinking it might be a faulty motherboard. I did check the links and one was bent but I put it back into place as best I can and it's still not doing any better. PLEASE HELP.

there is a cpu ratio option but that s to set your max clock speed it is default at "41" which is 4100 mhz. But no options as far as I can see for the multiplier.

Looked for anything to do with power saving in the bios and couldnt find anything other than EuP and its already disabled

There seems to be no solution. This mainboard is very sensible. I've got the same problem at trying to install a M.2 ssd. After that, nothing matters. I wrote it to MSI, my recommodation: do the same and complain your mainboard.

I'm having the same exact problem. Updated the BIOS and the solution came out of nowhere. Very disappointed with MSI right now.

Not sure if you're still active here but I had the exact same problem with the exact same motherboard. You have to open up your computer and in the bottom right of the motherboard, there is a slow mode switch. Click this link http://cdn.billiger.com/dynimg/JR69zDRQ_oV23S_DB3ecVzt4H9rycHjeBa9LTdXG2DAL_NB9lDiK5s1rc8QaIGuhPLbCIE0RPZ8X-hlsWl00qw/MSI-Z170A-Gaming-M7-7976-001R-Bedienungsanleitung-cde24f.pdf and go to page 27 to identify where the switch is (it's called SLOW_1). SWITCH THIS OFF! 100% GURANTEE THIS IS THE PROBLEM.

I actually have a faulty switch it seems. The switch has never been touched and slow mode isn't on. I had to turn off thermal throttling at the BIOS level to fix the issue. That or RMA the board.

That's a common issue I've seen with msi boards that include the slow_1 or slow_mode switch. The switch can be ineffective (it should be off, it's designed for extreme overclockers using ln2). As anon said the other workaround is often turning off the intel adaptive thermal monitor option in the bios.
