Hi all, I'd be really grateful if you could advise me on what I should upgrade next.

My specs:

CPU: i7 6700K
Mobo: Asus Maximus Gene VIII (LGA1151)
Ram: Kingston Hyper X Fury 16 GB DDR4 2400mhz
GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 6B mini
PSU: Corsair 750i fully modular
Cooler: Corsair H75i
Two SSDs (Samsung Pro 240GB for OS)

...I know my build is very much a mid range, slash end of life build now, but I feel the CPU can handle a few more years of gaming and streaming (it's primary purpose).

But if I was to upgrade, where would I see the biggest difference?

Thanks.

Ryzen 2700x, compared your system would be more of a side grade in game performance but streaming would improve and more threads would see Ryzen last longer. Then there's Ryzen 3000 nearing release too, around May/June.

Intel 8700k/9700k/9900k would be good upgrade with 9900k being the biggest but cost more. Wouldn't go 8600k or 9600k, 6 cores is quickly becoming minimum so wouldn't throw any money toward them for long term plan.

Imo, id keep your current system seeing youre still happy with it. In a couple of years or maybe sooner when DDR5 and PCIe5 become mainstream then consider an upgrade. That's what im waiting for, my current system in my sig is still serving me well.

Thanks for the information dude. I think my CPU is handling things OK, I'm tempted to upgrade my GPU if I go to 1440p.

Can definitely run a 1070ti/1080ti/2060/2070 if wanted to, and probably a 2080ti too. 2060 is about the level of a 1080.

With my setup im losing about 10fps comparing to an 8700k but im fine with that. Im still getting decent frame rates in the games i play at 1440p. Id imagine your 6700k would do fine.

If you want to increase quality for gaming and streaming, then definitely go with the GPU. If you replace your CPU, you will have to replace your MOBO aswell, making it very expensive. I would recommend going with a 1080ti or even 2080 if your budget allows
