[SOLVED] i7-6700k upgrade 2020?

I bought my i7 6700k with a prebuilt pc for for about 4.5 years ago, and it has been overclocked ad 4.6 for about 2.5 years now. I have played countless of hours of different games, so it has been used a lot.

My specs:
Gtx 1070 Founders Edition
16gb Hyperx Fury DDR4 ram 1600mhz
ASRock Z170 Gaming K4
I7 6700k

I bough this pc as a prebuilt almost five years ago, so i feel like some of the hardware is out of date. I get 100% cpu usage in games like BFV, Hell Let Loose, Post Scriptum, Tom Clancys Wildlands, Call of Duty Modern Warfare among other games. Whatever graphical setting i put the game on, it still stutters and has a constintent bad performance.(Below 60fps + a lot of stuttering) I feel like it's the cpu's fault that my pc handles games very poorly. The GPU is still good, for me atleast. I feel like upgrading to a i7-7900k. Should i also get a new motherboard and ram? I am not so educated wite this computer stuff. I would prefere to play games at high/medium settings with a stable framerate. But i really dont know whats wrong with my pc. Any help is very appreciated.

They have the i9-9900K line on a pretty good sale at most places to clear it out. The ASUS Z390-A is a good inexpensive board. You may be able to still use that memory depending on the exact model, and the GPU is fine for now IMO.

Honestly though, when the NVIDIA 30XX cards come out those will have a huge impact.

To help all the responses though, what is your budget?

Your motherboard will allow you to overclock.
If you have not yet done so, give it a try.

What percent can get an overclock at a somewhat sane 1.4v Vcore.

I7-6700K
4.9 5%
4.8 21%
4.7 64%
4.6 96%

You may need a better cooler.

There is no i7-7900K.
I think you meant i7-7700K which is the strongest processor that your motherboard supports.
The increase would be relatively minor, perhaps 5%

Overclocking would net you more like 25% improvement.

I think the budget would be around 500-700 dollars maybe, not really sure yet.
