hi, just wanted to ask which of them you think is better? i wonder how they will perform in dx12 games that utilize more than 4 core, also im going to overclock them so i wanted to know if the speed of the 6700k is really worth it when i can get the 3930k with more cores and just overclock it.

Skylake is so much more optimized, energy efficient (so less hot), and newer. Newer might seem like a silly argument, but don't forget the upgrade possibilities you have, and the newer standards for USB, SSDs and RAM (to name the most obvious ones) you enjoy with Skylake. If the price difference is not something you are really worried about, definately get Skylake.

There's a lot of buzz around how old I7s still hold up (and they do, performance wise), but power efficiency, a more silent system and the new standards for essential hardware are worth it. Skylake is dropping in price, you don't really pay the early adopters premium anymore (dependiing where you are from), and it's just so much more convienent.

im buying used and the 5820k isnt available is where im living, also it would cost significantly more.

right now i know thats the case, but what happens when new games that support more cores come out? the 3930k will probably have an advantage.

I doubt the 3930k will ever have an advantage over the 6700k in gaming. If your looking for 'future proof' then go with the newer skylake that supports ddr4. I would not go with the out dated 2011 chip if I were in your position. :)
